100 Senior Games – Jordan Pomeroy

This week v PEGS, Jordan Pomeroy becomes the 40th Pirate to play 100 senior games.

From the moment he walked into the club he looked ready made for senior football – despite fact he was only 16 years old! With thighs the size of tree trunks he dominated in the under 19’s before quickly making his senior debut shortly after.

Payzey was senior captain at the time he arrived, and remembers Q’s arrival.

“I think the coaching staff and senior players looked at him and were pretty excited with what they thought he could become. Just the raw potential and size meant he was something that any footy club would love to have. He played seniors at a young age and there was never much doubt in my mind he would become a good senior footballer. He was moved around a bit and it prob took him a little bit of time to find his position. Personally, I thought he was best down back where he was able to beat bigger players because of his athleticism. To his credit he has now become a really good midfielder. He is really in his prime now, and its been great to see his maturity as a footballer and a teammate. Not just a great player but a great bloke who I have loved playing with.”

Current Senior captain and close mate Sam Glenn – who also played his 100th senior game a few weeks ago – paid tribute to Q:

“Well done on reaching 100 senior games mate, a huge achievement.

It was pretty clear you were going to be a pretty good senior player right from the first few games we ran out in the under 19’s together. Macca saw this too, and quickly rushed you into the senior side, which eventuated in you playing a pretty important role in the sides push for its first senior flag in 2012.
Fast forward a couple of years and you were off falling in love in Europe and this is when I think we first realised what we had. A big bodied, composed, tough & skilful footballer who would move heaven & earth to get the four points. Being able to play at centre half back, centre half forward or in the centre is a massive credit to your versatility and skill.
Having played a lot closer to you in the midfield this year I’ve seen first hand the grunt work you do that quiet often would go unnoticed from afar.

Mate, an unreal first 100 senior games of footy for us. A couple of Big V jumpers, another couple of Runner Up B&F’s and Grand Finals. I cant wait to see what the next 100 are going to be like.

Well done again brother. “
